When you make God’s Word a central part of your life, you begin to see and experience a change in your attitude and your ability to deal with situations you have to face. God’s Word provides timeless truth that is life changing and powerful. We believe that making the Word a central part of your life is critical to having a strong spiritual life.
Journaling is a way to track your progress through the reading plan and to record what God has spoken to you through His Word. Your journal is a tool for study and a way to connect with your Creator. Sharing your journal with others is also a way that you can grow deeper in your relationships with others and spark discussion about what the Lord is speaking to you. That is why we, the leadership of Antioch, have decided to share our experiences with you through this online LifeJournal.
There are four principles for a LifeJournal:
S
(Scripture)
O
(Observation)
A
(Application)
P
(Prayer)
Scripture
Open your Bible and read the passages that are outlined for the day. Try to be consistent and read every day. If you miss a day, don’t sweat it, just read the ones assigned for the day and don’t try to make up any you missed. When you are done, journal one verse that really spoke to you. Write it all out (this will help you remember it).
Observation
What is God saying to you through this passage? What does it mean to you in your current journey of life? What can His Word mean for you in your situations at work, home, school, etc. Write this down, and God will use it to remind you of your purpose and what He has done for you.
Application
How will what you read affect your life in the days, weeks, and years to come. How will you decide to integrate the timeless wisdom of this scripture into your life? Write this down here, and it will serve to challenge you and convict you. This plan of action is there to encourage you to pursue what God is leading your heart to do.
Prayer
This can be as simple as thanking God for His love, His Word, or His providence. It could be a declaration of what you have heard from Him. It doesn’t have to be complicated, fancy, or long. Just talk to God and express what your heart is feeling. But remember that this is a two-way conversation, so take time to stop and listen to what He has to say back to you.
This may seem overwhelming to some, but remember that it is the effort that shows the quality of your heart. Just strive to do what you can, and over time, it will become easier and easier. If you have questions or need help with anything, feel free to email info@acclifejournal.org
